DSCC courses are offered in rotation. The frequency of course offerings is designated by (F) for fall semester, (Sp) for spring semester, (Su) for summer semester, or As Needed; location is designated by (Dyersburg) for Dyersburg, (GCC) for DSCC Gibson County Center and (JNC) for DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County. The frequency and location of courses are listed in the following descriptions; while DSCC makes every attempt to offer courses as indicated, course offerings and locations are subject to change.
Some courses offered at Dyersburg State Community College are designed for transfer for completion of a bachelor’s degree while other courses focus on specific career skills rather than meeting requirements for transfer. Courses to increase career skills are designated as **Not Part of a Tennessee Transfer Pathway** in the course description.

This course is a calculus-based introduction to the basic principles of physics. Topics include mechanics, elasticity, oscillatory motion, wave motion, sound, fluids and thermodynamics. 3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory.

This course is a continuation of the calculus-based introduction to the basic principles of physics. Topics include electricity, magnetism, basic circuits, geometrical optics and physical optics. 3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory.

The historical development of social work, its theoretical framework, knowledge base, and values as well as ethical boundaries are emphasized in the course. The introductory nature of this course provides the student with a broad overview of social work with its focus on systems of all sizes, including individuals, groups, families, organizations, and communities. The various fields of practicing social work are explored. This course prepares social work students for cultural competency skills in working with all types of populations. The focus of the course is a combination of factual information on various populations and specific social work skills to effectively work with different racial and ethnic persons. It also addresses the societal issues with discrimination and prejudice within the operation of society. Oppression of disadvantaged groups is examined on both the micro and macro levels of society. Students are challenged to examine their own personal beliefs, values and biases in regard to others and learn to exhibit competent behaviors as a social worker. 3 hours lecture.

This course focuses on the acquisition of language learning and cultural skills. Language learning skills are developed by examining the broad concepts of grammatical forms, vocabulary and sounds. Spanish culture is examined through language, literature, music and visual arts. Students learn to speak elementary Spanish focusing on vocabulary used in everyday situations. A portion of the course emphasizes vocabulary and expressions related to doctors, nurses, medicines and illnesses.
