EMSR 0100 - Emergency Medical Responder

Prerequisites: Must be 17 years of age or become 17 years of age prior to completion of the course.

This course prepares Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) to work in fire departments, rescue squads, and other frontline emergency teams. The focus of the Emergency Medical Responder is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting EDMS response and to assist higher-level personnel at the scene and during transport. Emergency Medical Responders function as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment. This course provides foundational knowledge essential for success in the EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic Programs. This course prepares students to take the National Registry Examination. A state background check and drug screen are required before students may take the exam. The exam must be taken within two years of completing this course. It is recommended that the exam be taken within three weeks of course completion. 4 hours lecture.

EMSR 0100 Emergency Medical Responder is only offered as a dual enrollment course at high schools in the DSCC service area.
