K-6 Emphasis, A.S.T.

The Tennessee Board of Regents two-year and four-year institutions developed the K-6 emphasis for the Associate of Science in Teaching degree to ensure a seamless transfer among the 19 TBR institutions of higher education. This emphasis is common among all TBR institutions and is considered as fulfilling the coursework for the freshman and sophomore years at those institutions.

To facilitate success in this program, all students should enroll in ORN 1010 - Orientation: Learning to Succeed  during their first semester at DSCC.

    Attainment of 2.75 cumulative Grade Point Average.


    An ACT score of 22 or successful completion of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core). DSCC’s recipient code is 3262. Use this code to request that official scores be sent to the Office of Records.


    Satisfactory rating on an index of suitability for the teaching profession.
