Sociology Emphasis (Tennessee Transfer Pathway), A.S.


The Sociology emphasis provides students various foundational courses in the social sciences. The student completes the first two years of requirements leading toward a baccalaureate degree.

To facilitate success in this program, all students should enroll in ORN 1010 - Orientation: Learning to Succeed  during their first semester at DSCC.

**Students who plan to transfer to UT Knoxville are strongly encouraged to take non-U.S. history courses to fulfill the general education history requirement.

***UT Martin requires a sequence in Natural Science general education courses.

****Universities will determine whether the sociology elective course counts toward the requirements of the sociology major or as an elective credit applied to the requirements of the baccalaureate degree.

*****Students should consult the catalog of their transfer institution for guidance in selecting elective hours.

******General electives must be selected from courses which are part of a Tennessee Transfer Pathway. Consult the Course Descriptions section in this catalog. Courses which are designated as **Not Part of a Tennessee Transfer Pathway** should not be taken as general electives.

At some universities, foreign language may be required in certain programs that lead to the Bachelor of Science degree. Community college students are encouraged to be familiar with foreign language requirements at the universities and, if applicable, complete the requirements before transferring.
