Nutrition & Food Science Emphasis (Tennessee Transfer Pathway), A.S.


The Nutrition and Food Science emphasis provides students various foundational courses in the field of nutrition and food sciences. The student completes the first two years of requirements leading toward a baccalaureate degree.

To facilitate success in this program, all students should enroll in ORN 1010 - Orientation: Learning to Succeed  during their first semester at DSCC.

Total: 60 Semester Hours


*For lists of eligible electives, see the appropriate section of the General Education Core Curriculum Requirements .

**Students should consult the catalog of their transfer institution in selecting the Social/Behavioral Science elective.

***Students who plan to transfer to UT Knoxville are strongly encouraged to take non-U.S. history courses to fulfill the general education history requirement.

****Students who plan to transfer to UT Martin should take CHEM 1010 - Introduction to Chemistry I and Lab and CHEM 1020 - Introduction to Chemistry II and Lab; if CHEM 1110 - General Chemistry I and CHEM 1120 - General Chemistry II are taken, then CHEM 2010 - Organic Chemistry I must also be taken.

*****Students who plan to transfer to UT Knoxville should complete MATH 2050 - Calculus-based Probability and Statistics.

*****General electives must be selected from courses which are part of a Tennessee Transfer Pathway. Consult the Course Descriptions section in this catalog. Courses which are designated as **Not Part of a Tennessee Transfer Pathway** should not be taken as general electives. Students should refer to the transfer institution’s program and concentration for recommended additional science and/or mathematics electives to meet entry requirements.

At some universities, foreign language may be required in certain programs that lead to the Bachelor of Science degree. Complete information regarding foreign language requirements at each university may be found on the transfer and articulation websites of the Tennessee Board of Regents and the University of Tennessee Systems. Community college students are encouraged to be familiar with foreign language requirements at the universities and, if applicable, complete the requirements before transferring.
