Foreign Language Emphasis (Tennessee Transfer Pathway), A.A.

Students who acquire an Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in Foreign Language may further their education at a four-year institution as a foreign language major or as an education major. Students should contact the transfer institution about the requirements of their proposed major so that they can plan their program of study at DSCC accordingly.

To facilitate success in this program, all students should enroll in ORN 1010 - Orientation: Learning to Succeed  during their first semester at DSCC.

**Students who plan to transfer to UT Knoxville are strongly encouraged to take non-U.S. history courses to fulfill the general education history requirement.

***General electives must be selected from courses which are part of a Tennessee Transfer Pathway. Consult the Course Descriptions section in this catalog. Courses which are designated as **Not Part of a Tennessee Transfer Pathway** should not be taken as general electives.

**** Students who plan to transfer to UTC should take MATH 1530 - Introductory Statistics. Students are encouraged to check the Mathematics requirement(s) at the transfer institution when selecting a MATH course.

***** Two-year sequence of a single foreign language through the intermediate level or the equivalent. Please check websites of university departments of foreign language for additional information regarding advisement available to students majoring in foreign language.

Note: During the sophomore year, students planning to teach should meet the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) or ACT testing requirements for their transfer institution.
