Early Childhood Education (PreK-3) Emphasis (Tennessee Transfer Pathway) A.S.T.

The Tennessee Board of Regents two-year and four-year institutions and the universities in the University of Tennessee System developed the PreK-3 emphasis for the Associate of Science in Teaching degree to ensure a seamless transfer among all public TBR institutions of higher education in Tennessee. This area of emphasis is considered as fulfilling the coursework for the freshman and sophomore years at those institutions.

To facilitate success in this program, all students should enroll in ORN 1010 - Orientation: Learning to Succeed during their first semester at DSCC.

Satisfactory rating on an index of suitability for the teaching profession.

Note: Students transferring to a University of Tennessee (UT) or Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) university may need to meet additional requirements to gain admittance to the university’s early childhood education program. Transferring students should check with the transfer university for specific program requirements.

^*For lists of eligible electives, see the appropriate section of the General Education Core Curriculum Requirements .

^**Students who intend to transfer to Austin Peay State University, East Tennessee State University, the University of Memphis, UT Chattanooga, and UT Knoxville should take MATH 1530 - Introductory Statistics to fulfill the mathematics General Education requirement; however, students who intend to transfer to UT Martin or Tennessee State University should take MATH 1710 - Precalculus Algebra.

^***The University of Memphis and UT Knoxville do not have Development of Exceptional Children in the PreK-3 Curriculum, and students transferring to the University of Memphis or UT Knoxville will have to take one other course after transfer.

^****Students who plan to transfer to UT Knoxville should take an intermediate foreign language instead of MATH 1410 - Number Concepts for Teachers; the University of Memphis does not require completion of MATH 1410.

^*****Students who plan to transfer to ETSU should take EDUC 2210 - Educational Psychology instead of MATH 1420 - Geometry Concepts for Teachers.
