Early Childhood Education (PreK-3) Emphasis (Tennessee Transfer Pathway) A.S.T.


The Tennessee Board of Regents two-year and four-year institutions and the universities in the University of Tennessee System developed the PreK-3 emphasis for the Associate of Science in Teaching degree to ensure a seamless transfer among all public TBR institutions of higher education in Tennessee. This area of emphasis is considered as fulfilling the coursework for the freshman and sophomore years at those institutions.

To facilitate success in this program, all students should enroll in ORN 1010 - Orientation: Learning to Succeed  during their first semester at DSCC.

Footnotes:

(1) Students who plan to transfer to the UM must complete at least one fine arts under the Humanities and Fine Arts general education requirement. Students planning to transfer to MTSU can take an approved Anthropology course in either the Humanities and Fine Arts or in an Area of Emphasis.

(2) Students who intend to transfer to TSU are encouraged to take a Political Science course.

(3) Students who intend to transfer to UTK are encouraged to complete one U.S. History course and one non-U.S. History course to fulfill the History requirement. Students who intend to transfer to UTM should take a U.S. History sequence to fulfill the History requirement. Students who intend to transfer to TSU may take U.S. History or Tennessee History.

(4) Students who intend to transfer to APSU, ETSU, UM, and UTC, and UTK, Math 1530 is required. At UTM MATH 1130 College Algebra is required. Students who intend to transfer to TSU are required to take a Math 1130 College Algebra or Math 1710 Pre-Calculus Algebra.

(5) Check with your advisor for recommended courses when selecting an Introduction to Special Education course.

(6) Students who plan to transfer to ETSU can take EDUC 2210 Education Psychology instead of MATH 1420.

(8) The Humanities/Fine Arts general education elective must include one literature course.

(9) One of the Natural Sciences General Education electives must be in Biology. One of the Natural Sciences General Education electives must be in Physical Science.

Students earning an AST degree must meet the following additional degree requirements:
  1. Attainment of a 2.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA)
  2. ACT composite score of 21 (or SAT score of 1080) or higher or successful completion of approved standardized examination (Praxis Core) for admission to the university’s College of Education
