Political Science Emphasis (Tennessee Transfer Pathway), A.A.

The Political Science emphasis provides students various foundational courses in the field of political science. The student completes the first two years of requirements leading toward a baccalaureate degree.

To facilitate success in this program, all students should enroll in ORN 1010 - Orientation: Learning to Succeed  during their first semester at DSCC.

Area of Emphasis Requirements


Total: 60 Semester Hours


*For lists of eligible electives, see the appropriate section of the General Education Core Curriculum Requirements .

**Students should confer with their advisor or a representative of the university to which they intend to transfer to determine the recommended history courses. Students who intend to transfer to UT Knoxville should take 6 credit hours of a non-U.S. History sequence to fulfill the history requirements. UT Chattanooga requires that one of the history courses be U.S. History.

****General electives must be selected from courses which are part of a Tennessee Transfer Pathway. Consult the Course Descriptions section in this catalog. Courses which are designated as **Not Part of a Tennessee Transfer Pathway** should not be taken as general electives.

*****Check the institution and program to which you intend to transfer for guidance when selecting area of emphasis requirements.

Additional information regarding foreign language:

Requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree at universities include demonstrated competency in foreign language at the intermediate level. Community college students are encouraged to attain intermediate-level competency in foreign language before transferring.

Complete information regarding foreign language requirements at each university may be found on the transfer and articulation websites of the Tennessee Board of Regents and the University of Tennessee Systems. Community college students are encouraged to be familiar with foreign language requirements at the universities and, if applicable, complete the requirements before transferring.
